Hyundai Creta Electric Review: Is This India’s Most Sensible EV?

The Hyundai Creta Electric Review begins with a crucial insight: 2025 is poised to be a pivotal year for electric vehicles in the Indian market, and it kicks off with the highly anticipated Hyundai Creta Electric. This groundbreaking model represents Hyundai’s first foray into the electric compact SUV segment, directly targeting what is currently the most popular and competitive automotive segment in India. For Hyundai, this is an incredibly important car. Not only is the conventional Creta consistently their best-seller, but introducing an electric version under such a well-established nameplate is set to significantly widen the EV adoption space. This comprehensive Hyundai Creta Electric Review will explore whether this electric SUV lives up to the immense expectations set by its ICE counterpart. While the Creta Electric, as you might have guessed, is fundamentally based on the existing Creta platform, Hyundai has incorporated numerous significant changes, with the refined driving experience standing out as a true highlight of this Hyundai Creta Electric Review.

Creta Electric Exterior Styling Review: Subtle Yet Distinctive EV Flair

From a distance, the electric Creta might bear a strong resemblance to the current facelifted Creta, but a closer inspection, as highlighted in this Hyundai Creta Electric Review, reveals many thoughtful and strategic changes designed to differentiate it as an EV. For starters, this captivating blue colour is exclusively available on the electric model, immediately signaling its electrified nature. Look closer, and you’ll notice a distinct blanked-off grille, which discreetly integrates the charging port at the front, along with a modern, pixelated design theme that extends across various elements.

Elsewhere, this Hyundai Creta Electric Review points out the inclusion of aero flaps – a segment-first feature designed to optimize aerodynamics and enhance range. The alloy wheels are also unique to the electric model, featuring an aero-efficient design paired with special Low Rolling Resistance tyres, further contributing to improved range. The rear styling theme meticulously follows the same pixelated design, creating a cohesive and contemporary look. Overall, the differentiation from its petrol sibling feels just right; enough to stand out as an EV, without being overly radical, a balance often appreciated in a Hyundai Creta Electric Review.

Creta Electric Interior Review, Features, and Space: A Leap Forward

Stepping inside the Creta Electric, this Hyundai Creta Electric Review immediately notices the familiar yet updated twin displays that are seamlessly joined. What’s genuinely new, however, is a sleek, floating centre console, providing convenient placement for new buttons dedicated to the ventilated seats. A significant ergonomic improvement is the new shift-by-wire gear shifter, smartly positioned at the column stalk, freeing up console space. The steering wheel is also redesigned, featuring different controls and a subtle brand logo in Morse code – a quirky, modern touch. The cabin is bathed in new blue ambient lighting, adding to the contemporary ambiance.

Despite the absence of extensive soft-touch materials, the quality inside the cabin is very good, and the UI of the infotainment system is intuitive and easy to use, making this Hyundai Creta Electric Review a pleasure to explore. Hyundai has loaded the Creta Electric with an impressive array of features. It boasts ADAS Level 2 capabilities, a high-quality 360-degree camera display, a panoramic sunroof for an airy cabin feel, a digital key for modern convenience, and comprehensive connected car technology. Comfort features include ventilated seats (which are powered), a driver power seat with memory function, and an immersive 8-speaker Bose audio system. Further enhancing convenience are touch-enabled dual-zone climate control, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality allowing you to charge gadgets like a laptop, a powered handbrake, and much more. This extensive feature list certainly enhances the overall appeal in this Hyundai Creta Electric Review.

A commendable aspect noted in this Hyundai Creta Electric Review is Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability; the seats and several cabin materials are made from sustainable and recycled sources. Crucially, space remains a strong suit, a fundamental advantage over many rivals. Rear seat passengers enjoy ample legroom and head-space, not sitting with their knees up, and can even recline and move the front passenger seat from the back. That said, a minor miss for the rear seat is the absence of a middle headrest, and while practical, the boot is not the biggest in its class. However, thanks to clever packaging, there’s a handy 22-litre ‘frunk’ (front trunk) at the front, a welcome addition in this Hyundai Creta Electric Review.

Creta Electric Driving Experience: Smooth Power and Exceptional Comfort

Our Hyundai Creta Electric Review had the opportunity to drive the top-end variant equipped with a 51.4 kWh battery pack, which promises an official range of 473 km. The single motor setup develops a healthy 171 bhp, and the claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time is an impressive 7.9 seconds. This makes it notably faster than even the petrol Creta N-Line. The column-mounted gear shifter is intuitive and easy to use, operating with no noticeable lag, adding to the seamless driving experience highlighted in this Hyundai Creta Electric Review.

On the go, the Creta Electric drives with remarkable smoothness, prioritizing a linear power delivery. There are none of the jerky movements or overly sharp throttle responses often associated with some EVs. Even in Sport mode, the power delivery remains smooth and linear, providing a brisk yet refined acceleration. It’s very quick but manages to feel more composed and less aggressively rushed than some rivals, delivering a sophisticated driving experience. The light steering makes maneuvering the Creta Electric effortless, especially in urban environments.

This Hyundai Creta Electric Review must also praise its ride quality. On some of India’s challenging roads, the 200mm ground clearance (which is actually a bit more than the standard Creta) allows it to glide over potholes with impressive composure. In fact, the absolute best aspect of the Creta Electric is its ride and suspension setup, which is far from firm, providing exceptional comfort even over rough surfaces. This variant utilizes an NMC battery with higher energy density. While the official range is 473 km, the real-world range is expected to be around 350-400km, which we will confirm in a full range test coming soon.

Notable highlights in this Hyundai Creta Electric Review include the i-pedal feature, which enables single-pedal driving where lifting off the accelerator will smoothly bring the car to a stop. There are three levels for regenerative braking, allowing drivers to customize the intensity. It even incorporates ADAS-linked regenerative braking, which automatically adjusts braking based on the distance to the car in front when in auto mode – a smart safety and efficiency feature. All ADAS features work seamlessly and effectively. Hyundai provides an 11kW charger with the vehicle, capable of fully juicing up the battery in approximately 4 hours. The accompanying app offers access to a wide network of public chargers, and interestingly, you can even pay for charging directly via the infotainment screen.

Verdict: Is the Hyundai Creta Electric the Most Sensible EV?

In conclusion, this Hyundai Creta Electric Review reveals that Hyundai has indeed done something quite different and strategically brilliant. Instead of creating an “over the top” EV from scratch, they wisely retained what makes the Creta a resounding success and simply created an electric version of it. It is fundamentally a well-sorted family car, much like the standard Creta, offering excellent ride comfort and practicality. As an EV, it naturally brings noiseless refinement, generous space, and even more advanced features to the table.

Hyundai Creta Electric Review: Most Sensible EV?

While its battery pack may not be the largest in class, the Creta Electric is undoubtedly quick, offers a good enough real-world range for most daily commutes and even longer trips, but crucially, it is easily the most spacious and comfortable EV in its segment. This makes it a truly sensible EV, one that would appeal to a very broad audience looking for a practical, family-friendly electric vehicle. We strongly suggest opting for the larger battery pack. If you have access to a home charger, the Hyundai Creta Electric is not only quicker than the petrol Creta but also significantly cheaper to run than its diesel counterpart!

What we like: Striking design, exceptional comfort, superb ride quality, good ground clearance, respectable range.

What we do not like: Lacks a middle headrest at the rear, not the largest battery pack in class.
